Documentation: Workshop Urban Informality & SDGS

Leipzig, 24.02.2020

We have finalized the documentation of our workshop on urban informality and the SDGs in January! In Pune, India, we discussed with members of the Bosch Alumni Network, external experts and city administration challenges and opportunities of SDG implementation in India's informal urban settlements.

In the first half of the workshop, the participants formed groups to discuss the implementation of UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in India.

The focus was laid on challenges posed by rapid urbanization and informality in India's metropoles. A number of cross-cutting topics were identified by the participants as critical for the implementation of the SDGs.

  • Rural-urban migration
  • Limited ressources (water, energy,...)
  • Livelihoods
  • Gender issues
  • Sustainability education
  • Lacking data

During the afternoon sessions, concrete ideas were developed in project workshops. The goal was to address the previously identified challenges with creative project ideas. Many great ideas were presented at the end of the workshop. More details can be found in the PDF documentation.

Leipzig, 19.02.2020

Already today, extreme events make climate-change-induced impacts on our daily lives visible. This poses new challenges and questions to us as individuals as well as communities:

  • What are the functionalities of our climate system and how do anthropogenic influences alter the balance?
  • What impacts do our cities and towns face?
  • How do we cope with changes in our environment?
  • How can we become active for mitigation measures in our community?
  • What are feasible adaptation strategies?

The interactive course format consists of four classroom and two online sessions, giving the participants access to climate experts for the discussion of individual questions. The participants also get to know the local climate protection authority and activists from their region.
